Course Modules

Perinatal depression and anxiety is an important health concern that impacts as many as one in five women and families across the province. This course represents a continued commitment from the Ministry of Health to support women and families with perinatal depression and anxiety. The course contains an introductory module, four lesson modules, and a short graded test module. Each of the four lesson modules focuses on a key theme:

  • Education and Prevention: promoting positive mental wellness, offering education about PND/A, destigmatizing mental health concerns, identifying risk and protective factors
  • Screening and Assessment: clarifying the PHN role in screening and assessing women for perinatal anxiety and depression to support early identification and treatment
  • Treatment and Self- Management: addressing the barriers to seeking care, this module focuses on the role of PHNs supporting the mental health and well being, and resiliency of women and family by offering information and education, exploring support options, referring for treatment, and supporting client self-management and self-care
  • Coping and Support: how to support women and families to access the full range of supports available to facilitate their recovery
